Victorian Pincushion
|
Once--in the middle of summer--I gathered a handful of violets outside my mother's home and used green birch twigs, violet buds and stems, and tea roses to make a small, heart shaped wreath. The vivid blooms and hues have long since drooped and faded, yet it still hangs on my bedroom wall inspiring me to try to recreate its silent essence of nature with needle and thread. Sometimes when winter stretches on gray and endless, I look at it taking heart at the promise of spring.
